Mtubatuba Mayor unveils Isimangaliso bridge

THE Mayor of Mtubatuba Municipality Cllr Qhina MKhwanazi, assisted by Isimangaliso Wetlands Park’s CEO Andrew Zaloumis recently officiated in the opening of the Bhangazi Berm Bridge, on the Grasslands Loop road, which is an 18km long stretch of road through the park.

The bridge, erected on the Bhangazi side of the park, will make it easier for the tourists to navigate through the park during their visit, and has been heralded as a milestone for the park, since it will also assist in the breeding of fish and other aquatic animals – who depend on water to flow across the road, during the rainy season.

Addressing the media, Mkhwanazi said the bridge will also help empower the local community, who were removed from the park, so they can find it easier to visit their ancestry sites within the park.

‘This will make our community feel part of the park, and be able to access their heritage sites and where their families were removed,’ the Mayor added.
