Baby dumped in Bay complex dustbin

The placenta was placed in a packet and disposed in the same dustbin

THE body of an abandoned newborn baby was found dumped in a dustbin at Fairview complex in Arboretum on Wednesday morning.

Wrapped in a red sheet, the lifeless body of the baby boy was discovered by a cleaner on the premises while she was going about her duties.

The placenta (afterbirth) was placed in a packet and disposed in the same dustbin.

According to Richards Bay SAPS communications officer, Captain Debbie Ferreira, a case of concealment of birth has been opened at the police station.

‘This is such a serious matter and we urge women and young girls who do not want to keep their babies to seek help from our trauma centre or from organisations such as Richards Bay Family Care or LifeLine Zululand who can advise them of other options to safely give up their babies.

‘They do not have to harm their babies as there are alternative solutions,’ said Ferreira.
