Firefighters struggle to contain blaze
A LANDMARK building in eShowe that has housed various businesses over the years, including Zululand Tyres, was razed to the ground by fire this morning.
The building, situated in the eShowe CBD, caught alight at around 6am.
uMlalazi Municipality firefighters struggled to battle the blaze. An array of problems such as fire hydrants being blocked, no petrol for their water pumps on the water tankers and one fire truck out of town for servicing, hampered their ability to deal with the flames.
As the fire spread, local farmers and Mandeni Municipality fire and rescue services came to their aid, eventually succeeding in bringing the fire under control.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
