Fears of violence ahead of EFF rally

‘There may be confrontation that leads to the death of the ANC and EFF.’

A MESSAGE did the rounds on social media on Friday night warning residents of Esikhawini to avoid the Mall where an EFF rally is scheduled to be held later today.

Members of the EFF including its president Julius Malema are set to visit the Esikhawini Mall at 10am as part of the party’s manifesto launch.

The warning cited possible clashes between EFF and ANC supporters.

Both parties were involved in a verbal spat in the week preceding the rally, with the EFF rubbishing reports that its members intended to destroy an ANC memorial arch during the visit.

The ANC hit back saying it had taken a resolution at a regional executive committee meeting to defend what it called ‘organisational property’.

An uThungulu District ANC official after a crime meeting in Empangeni on Friday night confirmed that members would ‘be there’ but would not be drawn into elaborating.

The Esikhawini rally is part of a ‘blitzkrieg’ by the EFF into ANC strongholds in the province.

Please, please members from Eskhawini must stay away from the Esikhawini Mall tomorrow, please do not even think of going past that place. There may be a confrontation that can lead to the death of the ANC and the EFF . Please tell your relatives’.
