Grantleigh holds title after shoot-out

Feast of goals at Tiger Wheel and Tyre Junior Open Girls Hockey Tournament

IN a repeat of last year’s final, Grantleigh Schools beat Mtunzini Primary 3-1 in a penalty shoot-out to claim the 5th annual Tiger Wheel and Tyre junior open girls hockey tournament title at Addison Park on Friday afternoon.

Both teams ended on 13 points at the end of the round robin stage, with both sides having scored 17 goals each and not conceding a single goal, which resulted in the shoot-out.

Grantleigh remained cool under pressure, with their goals coming from Kayla Hassard, Courtney Kleiner and Leamé Beukes.

They beat Heuwelland 2-0, Richards Bay Christian School 5-0, Felixton College 4-0, Holy Childhood 6-0 and drew 1-1 against Mtunzini in the round robin stages.

The final standings were: Grantleigh Schools 13 points, Mtunzini Primary 13, Heuwelland 9, Felixton College 6, Richards Bay Christian School 3 and Holy Childhood 0.
