Campaign to fight crime and racism

The event will start with a community march at 9.30am from the traffic next to Woodpecker Inn in Birdswood

THE Richards Bay Community Policing Forum (CPF) is to host a campaign ‘Say no to crime and racism’ on 16 April.

The event will start with a community march at 9.30am from the traffic next to Woodpecker Inn in Birdswood, move along Pelican Parade and proceed to the Eagles Nest Church where the formal programme will take place from 10am to noon.

The public is encouraged to join the awareness campaign which will be supported by Richards Bay Police Station Commander, Brigadier Brenda Mgenge, and the Department of Justice‘s Control Prosecutor Val Harripersadh and a host of other dignitaries and local leaders.

Richards Bay CPF Chairperson Robert Mbuyazi said the CPF has witnessed a steady decline in a number of criminal activities in Richards Bay, in particular property crime.

‘We have seen drug lords being arrested, increased police visibility, accountability and increased public alertness.

‘There is still a lot that needs to be done in our fight against crime and we invite the community to partner and support us in our mission to declare Richards Bay a crime free society.

‘This time our initiative is focusing mainly on the youth and other vulnerable groups such as women and children,’ said Mbuyazi.
