UPDATE: Boller murderers get double life sentences

Maximum sentences for Boller murderers

TWO brothers who murdered Zululand Yacht Club stalwarts Ernst (74) and Lilo Boller (86) at their Meerensee home on 5 September 2014, will pay heavily for their callous crimes.

The couple were preparing to meet friends for dinner that evening when they were overpowered and bludgeoned to death.

Their home was ransacked and torched, with their bodies inside, before the culprits made off in the victims’ car.

The tragedy was also widely reported in newspapers in Switzerland and Germany, where Ernst and Lilo were respectively born.

A huge manhunt and investigation finally paid dividends with the recovery of the Hyundai Tuscon near Mbazwane and subsequent arrest and conviction of the siblings.

Andile Phila Mbuyazi, who had worked as a gardener at the Boller home, and Zabani Mbuyazi (23) were sentenced in the Mtubatuba High Court on Friday.

The men from Nhlabane were given identical, maximum sentences by Judge A van Zyl: life imprisonment on two counts of murder, 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, and 10 years for arson.

A third accused, Sipho Mthiyane, was granted indemnity against prosecution in terms of Section 204 of Criminal Procedure Act, after testifying for the State.
