‘Give us jobs!’ – protestors torch ZAC mine offices

Some offices and at least one truck has been torched in another violent protest in Zululand

PROTESTS have erupted at the Zululand Anthracite Colliery near Ulundi, leaving several offices and trucks destroyed by fire.

According to reports, a number of people gained access by cutting a fence enclosing one of the mineshafts in the early hours of this morning.

They torched the offices and at least one truck.

It is believed the community is demanding that the mine provides work to the unemployed in the area and violence has erupted sporadically since January this year.

More unrest is expected before the weekend is over.

This is a developing story and we will keep you updated as it unfolds.
