Richards Bay woman raped in daylight house robbery

Police warn residents to secure their houses at all times

A HOUSE robbery turned violent when a Brackenham woman was raped inside her home on Tuesday morning.

According to Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira, the incident occurred at about 9.30am when three men entered the house.

The victim, who is in her fifties, was sexually assaulted and the robbers fled with jewelery, electrical appliances and a television.

‘The case has been transferred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS) for investigation,’ said Ferreira.

The incident sent shock waves through the community with frantic warnings circulating on social media platforms and calling on the community to pray for the victim and her family.

A week ago a teenager was raped during a house robbery in Mzingazi.

‘We urge residents to remain vigilant about security measures at their premises at all times.

‘Residents should keep their houses secured and doors and burglar gates must always be kept locked,’ said Ferreira.

‘Homeowners should also educate their domestic workers about safety when executing their duties around the home.’
