Robbers get away with valuables worth thousands of rands

According to reports, robbers target homes at night; they are highly armed, and use violence to terrify their victims.

Suspects fled with items worth thousands of rands, leaving homeowners in Leeuwpoort traumatised and feeling violated.

According to reports, the incident happened late at night on Monday, June 19, when the homeowner and his companion were cooking when they were abruptly ambushed by 15 suspects.

The suspects are reported to have bound their wrists and ankles with a wire and then placed them in the kitchen, where one of the suspects allegedly assaulted the victims.

The suspects allegedly stole a gas stove, generator and other valuable items.

Captain Eddie Hall, spokesperson for Witbank Police Station, offers some advice on how to avoid house robberies. “Install security gates and burglar bars; always lock doors and windows when leaving the house; consider installing an alarm system and CCTV cameras; do not open the door for strangers; be aware of your surroundings when entering or leaving the house; contact police immediately if you notice suspicious people loitering and sitting on street corners; and do not leave spare keys in obvious places such as post boxes.”
