Mandela Day drive for the elderly

The Executive Mayor of Emalahleni Cllr Linah Malatjie made three special visits to elderly members in the community.

The great Nelson Mandela was a man who loved giving and lending a hand to those who are less fortunate. He once said: “There can be no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy to helping others without expecting anything in return.”

The ANC women’s league in Witbank made a handful donation to the elderly of the community.

They all donated essential items that would help better the lives of the elderly.

The Executive Mayor of Emalahleni Cllr Linah Malatjie made three special visits to elderly members in the community.

Gogo Maria Mahlangu 76, Mr Sigwadi and Mrs Ndinisa Mabena from ward 13 and Gogo Anna Kgwale had the great pleasure to have their ward councilors and the mayor of the city to visit them. The elderly received a food donation and blankets for them and their loved ones.

The elderly people from ward 13 had different challenges that their ward councilor, Xondi Maseko, along with her team has been assisting them with. The caretakers of the elderly also received a blanket as a token of appreciation.

The women’s league also held a short prayer. They were given candles while praying as a symbol of peace for issues in eMalahleni such as drugs, gender-based violence and the pandemic. Xondi Maseko, the convener of the women’s league said that it is important to also encourage people to go vaccinate and to protect themselves from Covid-19.

“Today was a great day to implement the vision that Madiba gave to us; to show love, give and taking care of people in our community. We would like to appreciate all those who were a part of this beautiful day, I believe we have lived up to Mandela’s expectations,” Executive Mayor Cllr Linah Malatjie said.
