Refreshed Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet now in SA

Mercedes-Benz South Africa has launched its facelifted E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet models that are now available for purchase in Mzansi.

Initially known as the Mercedes-Benz 300 CE-24 in 1991 and later renamed the E-Class in 1993, the E-Class has become amongst the most emotionally appealing in the Stuttgart-based automaker’s line-up.

For the 2021 model year, Mercedes-Benz South Africa has launched its facelifted E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet models that are now available for purchase in Mzansi.

The new E-Class is initially available in two models at launch, an E200 and an E300. The E200 employs a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 145 kW and 320 Nm of torque. Mercedes-Benz claims it hurtles from a standstill to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. The E300 uses the same motor but massaged to deliver 190 kW and 370 Nm plus a 6.4 seconds sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h.

On the outside, the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet feature flatter headlights with all-LED technology as well as an A-shaped new diamond radiator grille which is standard on all versions.

South African models will feature the AMG line as standard for all Coupe and Cabriolet models.

The rear is bolstered with a new muscular rear section that has been completely redesigned. The inner workings of the two-piece taillights now feature LED technology while the reverse camera is inset into the boot lid.

The interior is fitted with new-look trim options – open-pore grey ash wood and aluminium with light carbon-fibre grain.

The E-Class is fitted with an entirely new, intelligent steering wheel as part of the facelift. This is available as a leather steering wheel and in a super sports variant.

It is also equipped with the latest generation of the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) multimedia system, which comes standard with two large 10.25-inch high-resolution screens. Two 12.3 inch screens are optionally available.

On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz has also launched its new E 53 4MATIC+ Coupé and Cabriolet. The E53 4MATIC+ Coupe and Cabriolet models spawn an electrified 3.0-litre engine with twin-turbocharging plus an electric additional compressor. The engine churns out 320 kW and 520 Nm and it is credited with a 4.4 seconds and 4.5 seconds sprint from 0-100 km/h respectively.

The top speed is capped at 250km/h (or 270 km/h, if the AMG Driver’s Package is selected).

The engine is coupled with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission.

To differentiate the E53 from its non-AMG models, it comes fitted with an AMG-specific radiator grille with twelve vertical louvres. The A-shaped design of the front is now broader towards the bottom. It also comes fitted with flatter, sharper-cut all-LED headlamps.

Both models ride on new 19-inch light-alloy wheels. As an option, 20-inch light-alloy wheels in a 5-twin-spoke design are available, with the optional AMG Night Package offering an even sportier appearance with outside mirror housings, window frames plus trim elements in the front and rear apron styled in high-gloss black.
