“We have given our full support to the learner and the family in dealing with this traumatic life-changing experience as well as our other learners and their parents.”

On the receiving of the results the learner, Sunday, June 14 the SGB and SMT followed the stipulated required steps to immediately inform the relevant impacted learners and their parents.

Before the test the learner was requested to self-isolation at home, on Thursday, June 11 and did not attend school on Friday, June 12 thus limiting any further exposure to and by any learner and staff.

”We were also in contact with the Department of Education, the Department of Health and NICD to ensure we have followed ALL the protocols to ensure the safety of learners and teachers at the school was done.”

The DoH and NICD teams came to school on Monday, June 15 doing screening as well as testing on the impacted individuals. Further risk-identification was done as well as the confidential communication has occurred between the impacted learners, their parents and impacted staff.

Those that have been tested are in 14-day self-isolation awaiting the results which in terms of not having any other contact or travelling outside of their homes is done to ensure this spreading and chain of the Covid-19 contracting is broken.

The school was sanitized again Sunday night by Willie Swanepoel of Mr Weed & Insect, a SABS Approved Disinfectant Spraying company. It was done again on Tuesday, June 16. Thus, ensuring the grounds, classrooms, hall and bathrooms are virus free and safe for use.

”We as the SGB and SMT appreciate all the support and optimistic understanding and actions we received from the parents and their children through these trying traumatic experience. Our purpose is to make a difference by doing everything we can to make it safe for our learners to attend school at Laerskool Klipfontein keeping social distancing, wearing their masks. Tracking movements and class seating are all part of this safety process. We are trusted by our parents and learners and we respect that trust. In our plan- one of the keys to ensuring we can curb and prevent the spreading of the Covid-19 virus- is communication. The communication that happened early and quickly in this case helped us in dealing with this pandemic. We urge parents and the community to use these learning’s and ensures we can prevent further outbreaks. Abstaining from unsafe social interaction outside of school in private homes and the public is the key to ensure the prevention is obtained.”

The school is still open and we are continuing to be making it safe for learners to attend. If there are any queries on the process feel free to contact the Principal or SGB Chairperson.

”We thank each one for the support during this time and pray that God protects our School, its learners and our community.”
