Standard Bank Innibos Arts Festival – Digital and world wide!

Sandra Jacobs, marketing manager of Innibos, said the on-going Covid-19 pandemic forces artists and festivals alike to be more creative and proactive than ever before.

The Standard Bank Innibos Arts Festival launches a digital arts festival on June 26 with an exciting programme of music and theatre. This digital event does not replace the arts festival that is planned for December, but is an added-on experience in the time which Innibos would have happened in Mbombela.

Innibos Digital will have 20 odd productions, some of which includes archived recordings from previous festivals as well as new productions recorded exclusively for streaming during the planned digital festival. The drama Leengoed, with Tobie Cronjé, will debut at Innibos Digital – a first virtual debut in the Afrikaans theatre industry.

The fourth annual Innibos National Craft Awards Exhibition, which received more than a thousand entries, is also going ahead.  A virtual exhibition will be held on Friday,  June 26, showcasing 60 shortlisted works – with radio personality Carol Sanderson introducing each piece to viewers – before the Mpumalanga MEC for the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation, Lindiwe Ntshalintshali, announces the winners and declares the online music and performing arts festival, Innibos Digital, open.

Sandra Jacobs, marketing manager of Innibos, said the on-going Covid-19 pandemic forces artists and festivals alike to be more creative and proactive than ever before.

“Innibos Digital provides an alternative and extra platform to participating artists. It is also necessary for the festival industry to adapt to the changing art environment and make use of available technology. We want to make full use of these new opportunities.”

Several new productions will be recorded in cooperation with Coleske Artists and MGG Productions.

The programme of Innibos Digital includes the JacarandaFM and kykNet Birthday concerts which drew thousands of people to the festival last year, as well as the acclaimed Fugard drama People are living there. The full programme will be released soon.

Book your tickets for the Standard Bank Innibos Arts Festival Digital from June 15 at Computicket. You will receive a link which will be active for 48 hours after being activated.

The planned date for the full Standard Bank Innibos Arts Festival is December 10 to 13, depending on government regulations regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.
