Gogo day celebrated in dance and theatre

They were shown a two-man theatre show by Ngubeni and guitarist Lindo Mthimunye

Gogo day was celebrated in style at eMalahleni when the elderly were taken through theatre.

According to the organiser of the day, Nelson Mandlenkosi Ngubeni, the day was prepared to recognise the role they play within the community raising their children and their grandchildren.

They were shown a two-man theatre show by Ngubeni and guitarist Lindo Mthimunye.

The show was about a mother struggling to raise her two children and later died leaving the one child with his grandfather while the other son was working.

The mother is captured praying to God for a better life for her and her children while at the same time stealing coal from a nearby mine to educate her children.

Eventually the elder child gets a job to be mine manager while the teenage son struggle to make ends meet.

His main aim to put a tombstone for his mother but in the end he could not.

The day was meant to celebrate the lives of mothers and especially grandmothers.

Ngubeni hope that the day will be celebrated better and bigger next year.

Ms Trudy Xhala-Mavimbela, manager in the office of the executive mayor transversal unit thanked the organisers of the day for their effort.

Members of Vukani group provided entertainment in dance and in song.

Vouchers were handed out after the show.
