The man behind the garden in Reyno Ridge

For a couple of years the traffic circle in Reyno Ridge area has just been like any other traffic circle, full of weeds, long grass and litter.

Since December last year one person saw the possible potential in the traffic circle and he started working on it, day after day.

Thabo Mongwena (32) who lives in Spring Valley takes a walk down to the traffic circle every day, just using his bare hands and his make shift broom, to turn it into a masterpiece.

He started off with a few flowers and plants that were already growing in the traffic circle and from there people started dropping off flowers and trees which he would plant.

“I know that the plants need to be watered, so everyday after fixing the beds and planting plants that need to be planted, I walk with a bucket to fetch water so the plants can be watered,” said Thabo.

Thabo loves gardening and working with his hands, he can spend hours in the garden he has established.

“I takes tiles and break them, then I place them in a pattern in the sand, it ends up looking like a mosaic,” continued Thabo.

According to Thabo he is very artistic in that way and every day he finds something new to do in the garden.
He has made a little fence from reeds, placing the reeds in the ground, and then from there stacking the reeds on top of one another so that it forms a fence.

Rocks have also been place around the garden which he placed there on his own, carrying a couple of rocks at a time.

“I am extremely proud of my garden and I take pride in it, that’s why I spend most of my time here,” said Thabo.
