Nomfundo Mahlangu from KwaGuqa is part of Future Leaders, Season 4.

Nomfundo is a grade 11 learner who is passionate about expressing herself through dancing and acting.
She would like to merge her passion for dance, by organizing a talent fundraising event where proceeds will go towards helping the local children’s orphanage with much needed supplies such as food and clothing. Her aim is to target relevant partners who will contribute towards the event and the facility. As such she has been tasked with organising a community meeting for under 18s to discuss issues of underage drinking.

On the show each of the contestants are guided throughout their journey by a dedicated mentor. Nomfundo is mentored by Jessica Tims, a youth TV presenter and personality.

SAB Director Corporate Affairs and Transformation, Mr Bongumusa Makhathini indicated that underage drinking is a complex issue and no single stakeholder can deal effectively with the problem.

“All sectors of society, including government, business and NGOs, amongst many others, all have a responsibility to tackle the problem. SAB cannot do it alone because initiatives work most effectively through collaboration.”

Season 2 Future Leaders Alumni contestant, Boitumelo Maropa believes through her experience that alcohol is seen as something fun amongst young people.

She applauds the show as during her time on the show in 2014 she learnt to be a leader, selfless and less self-cantered.

The first episode of Future Leaders will air on SABC 1 started on October 11. The show will run every Tuesday at 21:00 for a total of 13 weeks.
