Leon could be the record holder

Leon du Plooy aims to break the Senior Competition Eliminator Class National Record of 8,42s.

With the third round of the SA National Drag Racing Championships just around the corner, Leon du Plooy and Michael Ludick took to Tuner Wars to test out their vehicles.
The second round of Tuner Wars took place on May 30 at Tarlton International Raceway. This closed event gives tuners a chance to show off what their motors are made of.

Leon took the opportunity to test his newly fitted turbo out on his Extreme Turbo Clinic Nissan 1400 bakkie and pushed out an amazing 8.42 seconds, which just happens to be the national record for his class.
“I am very happy with the bakkie and the new turbo,” said Leon as he hid a laugh, knowing the power the turbo packs.

Michael warms up his tyres as Leon gives him the ‘go ahead’.

Michael also tested his Ludick’s E30 BMW out but had a few issues, namely his vacuum pipe on the computer box came off causing the car to blow a head gasket.
He did however manage a 10.040s in his run at a speed of 227km/h.
“I will have the car sorted out by nationals as long as it’s just the head gasket that’s damaged,” said Michael.
Michael has high hopes for Leon as he explained how the new turbo can and will give him that extra push he needs to shatter the record.

Be sure to come support both Leon and Michael on Youth Day at Tarlton International Raceway as they compete in the third round of the nationals.
