Around the world they go
Again the Famous Teddy Bear Tea Party proved to be a huge success.
On Saturday, August 23 more than 500 guests enjoyed the journey around the world as each of the 52 tables was set with a different ‘country’ theme.
Mountains of cake and treats were served and the generous rivers of tea and juice flowed at the afternoon tea.
Singer and actress Sonja Herholdt entertained guests with some of her favourite songs such as ‘Bring vir die Harlekyn nog wyn’, ‘Katryn’ and ‘Pêrels’.
The hearts of eMalahleni and Middelburg once again were very generous as proceeds of the event went towards the Teddy Bear Clinic, CANSA and Reach for a Dream.
A total of 5 455 teddies, that will be used as counselling for abused and neglected children, were collected not to forget the load of non perishable food. The food will be handed out to supporting homes and senior citizens in need.
As part of the yearly tea, an in-house competition is hosted for the top 10 tables and dressed bears.
This year’s winning table went to United Kingdom, with hosts Carmen and Marcia Joubert and the winning bear went to Las Vegas that was hosted by Minette Heyns.
The Teddy Bear Tea Party is a Miss and Mrs Greater eMalahleni and Middelburg project hosted by the founder Andries du Preez and the tea party is a yearly highlight on the social calendar.
Next year’s tea party will be taking place on August 29.
