Leven raises money for smiles

Leven the local band from eMalahleni has already done a few events for Operation Smile and in total they have raised R20 000 towards this contribution.

As a promotional thing, Leven will choose a school and play a 30minute show in their break time, and when they did this at Hoërskool Generaal Hertzog (HGH)  a few weeks ago, they were asked by Alice Bostock to come and perform an evening show at the school, and mentioned that after they were paid the rest will go towards Operation Smile.

As a band they decided that they would not take a cent that evening, and push every single cent that was made straight towards Operation Smile. In the end a total of over R11 000 on that evening was raised.

“Our opening act was from Mood Swing – Christiaan Lombard and Ivy Ann van Rooyen and they also played for free that evening, so we can thank them for their contribution aswell,” said Quintin de Bruyn.

Operation Smile does operations for cleft palate children, and such an operation takes only a few minutes, and costs roughly R 5 500.
“So it brings joy to our hearts that we could bring some smiles into this world. We firmly believe in doing a lot of charity work, we also previously played free shows for Cancer awareness, and we also play Rocking for Rhinos each year, which is hosted in Hoedspruit,” continued Quintin.

Alice Bostock was the organizer for the event at HGH , she does a lot of work to raise funds for Operation Smile.

“We would like to thank Alice for her hard work towards Operation Smile, and also each and every person that attended the event and made it a successful one. Also very important, we would like to thank the owner and staff of Pro Audio Music that sponsored the sound and crew for the event, without them this would not have been possible,” continued Quintin.

The band members consist of: Stan Kruger (Vocals),   Rudi  Jansen van Nieuwenhuizen (Lead Guitar), Quintin de Bruyn  (Bass and Backing Vocals), Vernon Swart (Drums) and Boyagain Friday (Keyboard and Synth).
