Full hand for Private Riders

There is a dictionary full of words to describe the astounding success of the Private Riders Motorcycle Club’s (MCC) 10th Poker Run.

However there is one word that can embrace the dayjol and tell the whole story – the three letter word ‘Wow!’
The Poker Run was held on Thursday May 1. Close to 155 bikers entered at the Round Table 57 hall.

From there the bikes had to follow a route which took them to different stops where they had to draw a card at random. These cards were recorded on each biker’s scorecard.

There were high hands on the day. Nick Gunther and Janien van Rensburg recorded a straight each and Francois Korb was lucky as lady luck smiled upon him and he recorded a three of a kind in his hand. They each won a gold plated pack of cards.
Norman Griffiths, president of the host club, had a few surprises up his helmet for the participants of the games played on the day. They were win-it-in-minute-games.

Participants had only 60 seconds to build a tower of cups. This game was made a wee bit more difficult as they were not allowed to use the same hand twice.

This game was won by Liza Strydom. She was a private entry.
The men did not perform very well in this game and that resulted in a few giggles from the ladies. However Drikus Kaizer from Blaze of Glory MCC managed to stack 17 cups and by doing so he won the men’s event.

A whole lot of facial expressions caused for a lot of laughter as participants in the ‘Cookie-face’ game had to move a cookie placed on their foreheads to their mouth. But here was the trick. They were only allowed to use their facial muscles for this game.
Veronica Oosthuizen from Gypsy Jokers MCC won the ladies event and Boela Roos from Blaze of Glory MCC the men’s event.

In the third game Boela again held Blaze of Glory MCC’s name high when he won the ‘Penny-for-nothing’ game. Michelle Booysen, also from Blaze of Glory MCC, won the ladies section.  In this game participants had to land coins in a shooter glass placed in a bucket of water. This was much more difficult than it sounds, as the coins just could not find their way into the shooter glass.
In the last game, traditionally know as ‘down-down’ there was also a bit of a twist.

Participants had to bring a mouthful of Eno’s to their mouths by hoisting it using two strings and a small piece of wood. Once they managed to successfully conquer that ‘obstacle’ they had to down a beer.

This was the second game Liza won and in the men’s section Drikus showed the men how it was done.
As the sun set, the bikers took time to relax and mingle and enjoy the rest of a very successful Poker Run.
