Locally-produced Konfetti will be screened here

A committed supporter of local arts, film and music, The Ridge Casino will be screening the independent Afrikaans movie, ‘Konfetti’.

You can go and see this movie from Saturday, April 18. The movie, starring Louw Venter, Nico Panagio, Casey B. Dolan, Kim Engelbrecht, Casper de Vries, Christel van den Bergh and Jana Strydom, is touted to be a local box office hit.

Konfetti, directed and produced by Zaheer Goodman-Bhyat, is also set to make waves internationally when it features at the 2014 Beverly Hills and Julien Dubuque international film festivals.

Entering its 14th successful year, the Beverly Hills Film Festival (BHFF) is an international competition dedicated to showcasing the art and talent of emerging filmmakers in the city globally recognized as the headquarters for VIPs to the motion picture industry. Dedicated to independent filmmakers, the BHFF creates a wonderful screening environment allowing participants to feature their films in the highest quality venues available to consumers around the world. The festival will run between April 23 and 27.

In the same vein, the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival also acknowledges emerging filmmakers from around the world, with a strong emphasis on discovering and encouraging new talent. The festival supports cause-related films, bringing together all elements of filmmaking and has adopted the reputation of being one of the 25 ‘coolest’ film festivals in the world. The festival will also run between April 23 and 27 in downtown Dubuque.

Bhyat had the following to say: “I am enormously proud of everyone involved in making Konfetti. Louw and I worked for years to realize a film we could be proud of and to be recognized internationally with big wins for our Afrikaans films is a great moment for us, for Afrikaans and for South African film.”

The Ridge Casino’s marketing manager, MsThapelo Modise expects that Konfetti will pack out Movies@The Ridge as the local box office hit, ‘Pad na jou hart’ did when it first opened.

“The calibre of locally produced films just keeps getting better and better. We hope that our local movie buffs will support this latest local offering,” said Ms Modise.
