HGH Cricketers going abroad

“This is a great opportunity for the players,”

Several cricket players from Hoërskool General Hertzog are going to teach a few South African tricks to their fellow players abroad as well as learn from them. These five players are going to play in Sri Lanka as part of the South African invitation team with the goal of developing cricket on an international level.

During the development tournament that is taking place from November 24 to the beginning of December will host teams from Australia, New Zealand, and the UK among many others. Harry Chatterton, Deon van Niekerk, Yokesh Kanaya, Anthony Ruschenbaum, Reinhardt Schoeman are the five players that where chosen for the team based on their performance during a cricket tour in Pretoria earlier in the year. During the event they played well against other big name schools such as Middelburg HTS to earn their spots in the invitation team.

“This is a great opportunity for the players,” said the HGH cricket couch Mr van Wyk.

Three of the players are in matric and a few of them have expressed a desire to pursue a professional cricket career. The trip to Sri Lanka is a big step for them and a great learning experience.
Sri Lanka is a country with a rich history and a great passion for cricket. It has maritime borders with India to the northwest and the Maldives to the southwest. While the national sport in Sri Lanka is volleyball, by far the most popular sport in the country is cricket.

The national team won the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 played in Bangladesh, beating India in the final.
One of the players said that he is very excited for the trip and hopes to learn as much as he can during the two week development event.
