Witbank Citylads held to a draw by Barberton City Stars

City Stars substitute Andile Fakude made things to happen with his dribbling skills and opening Citylads defence

Witbank Citylads had to dig deep when playing Barberton City Stars during their ABC Motsepe League match.

The match was played at Lynnville Stadium in rainy conditions on Saturday January 18. The teams played to a 1-1 draw.

A moment of silence was observed before the start of the match for the late Mama Mantwa Khoza wife to Dr Ivan Khoza, the PSL chairperson Pirates owner.

City Stars penetrated Citylads goalmouth when Bongi Lubisi had his shot blocked. In response Citylads Thapelo Dhludhlu crossed a ball but it was out of reach for Sanele Khanyile.

Again Dhludhlu was in the picture when he passed the ball to Hlabirwa Mashigo to score who also failed to score a goal.

Citylads were given a place-kick but yield negative results.

Khanyile scored Citylads goal when he beat City Stars keeper with a loop over his head to make it 1-0 in the 23 minutes.

A Citylads corner-kick taken by Dhudhlu failed to find the target.

City Stars Bongi Lubisi played in the match. City Stars equalised to make it 1-1 in the first half of the match.

Citylads tried their best to knit the ball towards the goal but their two shots were blocked after a good build up.

City Stars were very fast on the attack but Citylads stood their ground.

Citylads are placed ninth with 25 points.

Citylads will play a derby with Bakone FC in their next game on Saturday, January 25 at Lynnville Stadium.
