Cincinnati teaches kids to fly without wings

Ethan placed second in the 50cm accumulator show jumping class

Horse riding has often been called the sport of kings, and Cincinnati Equestrian Centre is just chock-and-block full of royalty.

On January 18, riders from Cincinnati Equestrian Centre set off to compete in Middelburg at one of Stunoverian Equestrian Centre’s famous shows.

Riders competed in show jumping and showing classes on Cincinnati’s horses and proved that eMalahleni produces some of the best young riders around.

Kaylee Fourie and the beautiful grey Irish Mist won their working riding class and came second in in-hand utility.

Cincinnati Dusk, Cincinnati Equestrian Centre’s ‘golden boy,’ and his brave rider Henrique Venter performed well considering that this was the young Dusk’s very first show.

Henrique rode Dusk bravely.

This is definitely a pair to watch for the future.

Ethan Fourie rode Ariel at their very first show together on the day as well.

Ethan placed second in the 50cm accumulator show jumping class.

Anouk van Vuuren, competing on Irish Mist, had a rocky start to the day but was able to pull through and achieve a fantastic second place in the 40cm accumulator show jumping class.

Linique Horn competed on the large bay thoroughbred mare, Erize.

Linique and Erize performed incredibly well, leaving spectators in awe as they flew over the obstacles that formed the show jumping course.

Llewelyn van der Walt, riding Irish Mist, kicked dust in the face of his competitors – bringing home a first place in the 60cm show jumping competition, and a second place in the 60cm show jumping accumulator.

Caleigh Ferreira and Ariel also scooped up nearly all of the rosettes, winning their in-hand utility class and coming second in their working riding class.

Jonell Blignaut competed on Flawless Night, her breathtaking chestnut steed.

Jonell walked away with a very well-deserved third place in the 50cm show jumping competition, and out performed most others in the 60cm show jumping accumulator as well.

Cincinnati will be strutting their stuff again on January 31 at the South African National Equestrian Schools Association (SANESA) show which will be held at the Forever Resort Badplaas.

If you or your child would like to learn to ride (and win), you too can be a part of the Cincinnati Equestrian Centre team.
