Instruman Dingy Grand Slam

The high pressure that moved over South Africa brought high temperatures and no consistent wind

The Instruman Dingy Grand Slam held at the Witbank Yacht and Aquatic Club (WYAC) was a huge success.

On Saturday, October 19, 12 eager sailors took to the water but disappointingly wind soon died down and only one race took place.

Things looked better on Sunday, October 20.

The wind was more promising, and four challenging races were sailed by 13:00 when again the wind stopped.

The high pressure that moved over South Africa brought high temperatures and no consistent wind.

The five optimistic juniors had a close race. The confidence and knowledge of these young sailors promise a good future.

The winner was Ingrid Holm all the way from Aeolians at Vaal Dam, followed by Rohan Chidley from TYC, Lena Holm from Aeolians came in third and Adrian Rautenbach took fourth place.

Aydin O Hara took the fifth place.

In the senior fleet Rudolph Holm finished first, Alex Garoufalias and Chris Witburn from WYAC shared the second place and Helen Jansen van Vuuren came in third.

Fourth place was Chris Petzold and in fifth came Koos Kriel, both are from the WYAC.

There were newcomers to the fleet and they were advised along the way by Helen Jansen van Vuuren who showed great comradery by helping.

The closed circuit Meerkat Camera System valued at R7 000, sponsored by Instruman, sailor draw, went to Rohan Chidley of TYC.
