The 7th annual Emalahleni Easter Challenge soccer tournament was played on the Easter weekend at Ackerville grounds then finished off at Lynnville Stadium.
The tournament was organised by Trevor Dube of Sport Wrap Foundation. The Easter tournament ended on the Easter Monday. There were eight local teams which took part in this year’s edition; most teams were new in the popular township tournament.
The team from KwaGuqa, Gupta FC made their intentions clear in the tournament by winning their two opening matches to reach the semi-finals while Amagugu fought their way back to reach the semi-finals to eventually meet the Guptas in the final at Lynnville stadium.
The final was a one way ticket as the Guptas FC scored 4-1 to embarrass Amagugu on the final.
Mdu Masuku was the player of the tournament as he walked away with brand new soccer boots and the goalkeeper of the tournament was Elvis Onyango who also received a new pair of soccer boots.
The Guptas FC took home R4 000 in cash, the losing finalist Amagugu took home R1 000 in prize money.
The players were excited as 160 players participated in this year’s tournament.
Sport Wrap Foundation would like to thank all the teams and sponsors who once again made the games to thrill the community and being an emphatic success.
