Lesley Vermeulen still has 543.5km to cover to get her name alongside only nine others to have run around the earth.

After Lesley’s story appeared in WITBANK NEWS and reached social media platforms, she was reminded by a fellow runner, Ken Swettenham that he is on the same mission and he dreams of the day he can say he only has 500km left to do.

Lesley reflected on the weekend’s race and said the 21.1km she covered in Secunda was fairly easy.

“It was a five hour cut off for all the events, so this was a walk in the park. I released Abie from his chain and let him run the 42km. I would cope with the 21km on my own.”

But getting to Secunda proved challenging.

“We set off in time but encountered detours and ended up being late again. Low flying to Secunda, not a good idea, gave us time for entering, a toilet stop and coffee before the start.”

Lesley and Abie took a well deserved Sunday break, but ended up cleaning out the garage.

“What a mistake, running would be easier,” Lesley said.

Lesley signs off with a little advice,

“It doesn’t matter if you are old or young, overweight or slim, anyone can run. Lot’s of people say I can’t run’. Start by walking and eventually build up to running if you want. Many people stay walkers, and that is also good. Make the decision today to start, which is already a big step.”
