Spurs held to a draw by Maluti

Even though Witbank Spurs played a much better game than their last home game, they were nevertheless held to a draw by a relegated team.

Spurs were held to a 1-1 draw by Maluti FC at the Puma Rugby Stadium on Sunday, May 3. Maluti FC has already been relegated and will be playing in the ABC Motsepe League next season.
Even though their performance against Maluti was better than their game against Baroka FC, Spurs needs to do drastic changes before dreaming of promotion to the PSL.

The game started with Spurs controlling the game and a Maluti forward was left alone, but could not nail the ball into the net with a header. Spurs were better defensively and were much organised in the middle of the pack.
Spurs were caught on the break and their keeper did well to block a shot. Maluti keeper was roughly tackled by Spurs Serial Mkhatshwa and he was yellow carded for the offence. The injured keeper had to be allowed time for treatment as per the rule.

Spurs’ industrious Mduduzi ‘Chappies’ Mathabela made things easy for Spurs by creating a lot of opportunities, but he was let down by his team mates. He also missed an opportunity to score after he initiated a move.
Maluti were back and missed after a cross. Spurs defender Mogau Tshehla was substituted after an injury and was replaced by Dumi Tau, who came as a blessing. Tau whenever in possession with his forward runs, was always a threat to Maluti defence.

In the second half Maluti scored with a header and put Spurs under pressure. Both teams made some substitutes and Spurs were the more aggressive in the second half.
Spurs equalised through Tau who scored from a close range. Peter Mubayiwa came close to scoring in the dying minutes of the game, but his shot was well saved.

Spurs need to pull up their socks next season and are left with an away game against Royal Eagles.
