The date is February 21 and the venue is Thuthukani Primary School where it all started. The tournament will start at 14:00.
Sparks are expected to fly when Mongezi “The Redeemer” Sindane will be making his first ring appearance since he was awarded the 2014 eMalahleni Mayoral trophy for the most improved sports personality.
The camp is in the spotlight again when they produced from their boxing programme 13-year-old undefeated boxer, Mongezi Sindane.
His record of 18 fights without any defeat is a perfect record. He was awarded Emalahleni Mayoral Award for the Most Improved Individual Sportsperson.
He received a trophy and a R10 000 cheque for his effort. Mongezi is a pupil at Thuthukani Primary School in Phola and a product of the ABC boxing programme.
Likewise Shaun ‘champ’ Sindane the cousin of Mongezi is also unbeaten in a career record of 12 fights. A lot is expected from the two young boxers.
ABC Boxing Camp is growing by leaps and bounds and they want to make their mark in the country and all over the world.
Recently the club was joined by Elongo Pauni Chaky from Lubumbashi, DRC, where well known soccer team TP Mazembe is based.
Chaky has one-year experience as a boxer and is undefeated in three fights, all by knockouts.
He fights in the same weight division as the former South African junior welterweight champion, Lawrence Ngobeni, and in the same division as Macusood Sando of Malawi, all in the same camp.
Other promising fighters in the ABC camp who are likely to turn professional this year are Osea Mosehla from Extension 14 and Hassan Nsubungu from Uganda both in the middleweight division. Another promising boxer in the same division is Tinus Els from Middelburg who turned professional last year.
Other promising boxers are Xolani Mgidi, Akon Dibi Caiphus Manate and Thomos Dladla.
“This year, it looks like 20 boxers will be fighting for ABC Boxing Camp,” added Ngobeni.
