Nkangala Athletic Academy (NAA) athletes travelled by bus to take part in the in the South African cross country championship held at Olympia School, Pacaltsdorp in George, in the Western Cape.

They said that it was a long day and night drive trip by bus to the championship on Saturday, September 13.
The club was represented by at least 23 athletes among the more than 200 Mpumalanga athletes selected to represent the province.

“We went there ready to compete and we came back with great experience. Nkangala was able to come back with two bronze medals for Mpumalanga, thanks to Thulisile and Thobile Amon for outstanding team performance in girls’ u.15 4km category. We failed as a province to deal with critical area in preparing for this championship. Other provinces were far better than us.

Development plan will be a great solution working hand in hand with Mpumalanga teams. Other poor performance-contributing factor was that most of athletes were not sure if they will manage to pay R850 travelling fee. They stressed while trying to ask for donation instead of preparing for the big day.

Together we can make a positive change in young ones life through sport,” stated chairperson of Nkangala Athletic Academy Emmanuel ‘Shaper’ Mabaso.
