The world at their (four) feet

A number of members from Witbank Dog Club participated in the recent World of Dogs and Cats (Wodac) Expo in Midrand, Johannesburg.

The exhibition ran from Friday, July 18 to Sunday, July 20.

The competition started well for the locals with Rimmon Booyens and ‘Thaddeus’ and Michelle Meyer with ‘Ice’ passing Canine Good Citizenship Bronze. Although not a competition as such, each dog and handler is tested in a number of tasks to examine their behaviour in public to ensure a well-behaved dog.

Then competitions started in earnest and with something for every animal sport lover, the crowd of about 3 000 spectators per day filled the indoor arenas.

With prestigious competitions and each dog’s performance being tested, the locals gave good account of themselves.
Michelle Meyer and her border collie ‘Ice’ negotiated the 60 weave poles in 17 seconds earning a third place, merely two seconds behind the winners.

Rozelle de Waal and her Jack Russell ‘Sandy’ won second place for dog jumping Cable Stitch Pairs.
Also from Witbank, Michelle Williams and her Biewer Terrier ‘Dazzy’ were second in the tunnelling event.
