Heart stopping action on the ramps

As street sports are exploding in popularity world-wide, Highveld Mall hosted the first competition of this vibrant culture at the Skate and BMX Park.

The main focus of the Back to the Street event is to encourage and develop the skills of amateur skaters and BMX tricksters.

On Saturday, July 12 the first day started as professional riders and skateboarders entertained the crowds during the demo shows. After the demo rounds, it was time for the professionals to help the amateur riders and skateboarders with a few tips and tricks.

During the demo shows, the crowd had the chance to see the nail biting craziness of professionals such as Euroi Wildschutt doing an amazing back flip on his BMX and many others.

By Sunday, July 13 a huge improvement was seen in the amateur BMX riders and skateboarders as they received so much help and advice from the professionals and they were ready for the final competition on the day.

If you missed all this action be sure to catch it this weekend on Saturday and Sunday, July 19 and 20 as it’s the skate board competition.
Many members of the community helped where they could, by buying skate boards for children and tyres for BMX bikes.

Pro Ramps have been responsible for the construction of the park, which has be erected near the News Café entrance of Highveld Mall Food Court using the Spur lawns and adjacent parking area.
