Kevin De Aar has running legs

Kevin De Aar started running while he was still at school and has never looked back.

The local athlete started school at Witbank Primary School, moved to Middelburg Combined School and completed at W.H. De Klerk School and started his running career while still at Middelburg.

He specializes in cross-country and road running. He competed in the junior South African championships and came seventh and the top six athletes were chooses to represent the country in the championships in Scotland.

Recently he had run in the 21Km Gijima race, finished second in the Shaduka 32 Km race and came second in the Panorama 21Km race as well. This year he joined the Midick Athletic Club after involved with other clubs; previously he was a member of a club based in Gauteng.
“I am aiming for the big race in September, to qualify to ran overseas. I do my training by doing jogging in the morning and speed session in the afternoons. I do the training all by myself as my previous training partner has left eMalahleni,” explained De Aar.

De Aar has won many races in the past and has trained youngsters who won races after a two months training period, he is still prepared to train youngsters or athletes in schools. He believes that he has the ability to train athletes to perform at their best within a short period of time. He wants to be involved with schools to train their athletes and be contacted for his service.

His main challenges remains running shoes, racing shoes, tracksuits, tights, gloves and food supplements. Recently he has met with Josiah Thugwane, the first black South African athlete to win an Olympic gold medal award by winning the marathon in Atlanta, Georgia (USA). According to De Aar Thugwane wants to be his manager and couch and they are still to meet and finalised the partnership. Thugwane has trained athletes who achieved success in the past and wants to do the same with De Aar.

“Thugwane is going to put me in a special training programme as we set our sights for the Joburg City Race in September and we need to start training and preparations at the end of May. I live a clean life and think I will be representing the South Africa in cross-country in the near future and I believe I can,” added De Aar.
