Leon sets a new personal best

Leon du Plooy has managed a new personal best of 8.6 seconds at Tarlton.

Engines roared and the crowd cheered a display of engineered power soared down the strip at Tarlton International Raceway in the second round of the National Drag Racing Championships on April 28.

Leon made up for his previous runs in the first round of nationals by setting a new personal best on the strip of 8.6 seconds and finished fourth in his class. Mark van der Westhuizen set a time of 10.6 seconds and finished eighth in his class.

“I’m now the fifth fastest four cylinder rear wheel drive in South Africa,” said Leon, who is very impressed with how his Turbo Extreme Clinic Nissan bakkie has performed.

One issue did arise for Leon this round, the newly installed wheelie bar, which has reduced his lift substantially, bent. “I will have to strengthen it for the next round, but that won’t be a problem,” added Leon.

Be sure to catch Leon and Mark in the third round of nationals taking place at Tarlton on June 16. Gerhard ‘No Limit’ Nel and Michael Ludik aim to have their wheels ready and running for the next round, come and support our local racers.
