Emalahleni Easter Challenge a huge success

There were 20 teams at the start of the Emalahleni Easter Challenge on Day One and there were still 20 teams in Day Two of the tournament.

The teams played each other in two groups on two different soccer fields until there were four teams remaining, then there were two teams and one was crowned the champion of the tournament.

Sisters played and beat MP Highlander in the finals of the tournament organised by Trevor Dube and his team of committed officials.
In the semi finals, Sisters beat Twins 3-2 during penalties, while MP Highlander beat Vezighono in the other semi finals.

Both teams started the game played at Ackerville Open Field on fire and tested each other though they were both very cautious of allowing an early goal.

While Sisters were in the attacking mode, Highlanders defended well. A Sisters’ player missed with a long-range shot, which was saved by the Highlanders’ keeper. Sisters led 1-0 during the first half.

In the second half Highlanders spread their passes wide, tried their best in attacking and were rewarded when they scored during a scramble.
Some of the players from both teams showed their soccer skills. In the middle of the field where play was most concentrated, it was most intense in the dusty field. Both teams failed to break the dreadlock and went for the penalties.

Goalkeeper of the tournament, Elvis Mokoena of Sisters, saved three spot kicks and to crown it all scored his side third penalty kick and they won 3-0 and 4-1 on aggregate.

Innocent Nkosi was the top goal scorer while Elvis Timbane was judged the player of the tournament and all three received trophies for their efforts.

Dube would like to thank all the teams, officials, supporters, and sponsors for making the tournament a success. It is hoped that the annual tournament next year will be held again at Lynnville Stadium, which is under renovations.
