Spurs nearly spoil Chippa party

Chippa United came to Emalahleni for their game against Witbank Spurs needing only one point as an assurance for a promotion to the National Professional League (PSL).

They lost the game but still they qualify for an automatic promotion.
Chippa United are already home and dry after Black Leopards and Milano United both lost their games.

Kickoff magazine reported that Black Leopards’ automatic promotion hopes ended after losing 1-0 to United FC. Leopards can still challenge for a spot in the PSL via the play-offs, they were undone by Siyabonga’s Zulu goal, with both sides failing to convert penalties.

Chippa United have all but ensured automatic promotion, as they are 10 points clear at the summit. Leopards, in second place, have three games left. Milano United, in third, will need to win their remaining four matches handsomely and hope the Chilli Boys lose their remaining four games to move level on points.

Chippa, though, currently enjoy a superior goal difference. Jomo Cosmos are level with Milano on 42 points.
Even though Spurs started the game on a low gear as Chippa dominated play and scored their goal through Andile Mbenyane.

Spurs Rhulani Manzini missed with a header, which went over the bar. Troublesome Chipper winger Sipho Mtule kept Spurs back line busy with his dribbling and touchline runs and nearly scored with a long range.

While Spurs rely on crosses Chippa started their moves from deep end of their half. Chippa scored, beating Spurs keeper Lindokuhle Nkambule with shot from the left corner of the field and sailing through the net.

Spurs missed several chances to score and only Mogau Tshehla scored to make it 1-1.
In the second half Spurs were all over Chippa who were only saved by the tight defence but managed to break the wall. More than four players received yellow cards as players became hard on each other.

Spurs were more organised in their play, their defence holding the ball for their forwards to make the necessary runs.
Spurs’ play soon bore positive results as Rhulani Manzini and Dumisane Tau scored to make the final score 3-1.
Spurs spokesperson George Khumalo reported that his team would be hosting another Cape Town team, Santos on Sunday, April 27, at Puma Stadium. Kick-off is at 15:00.

“After beating NFD champions Chippa we are looking forward to making a double over Cape teams. Santos are eyeing one of the two play-off spots and we will be doing them no favours. They have one of our former players and a locally born boy, Sizwe Nyambi. We intend to finish this campaign in top form and a top five finish. To our Spring Valley branch, the team is grateful for your support and we will continue dishing out the brand of football you witnessed on the past weekend,” added Khumalo.
