Boxing tournament at Phola

The ABC Development Tournaments are on course to reach their goals. ABC Club has been having tournaments on monthly basis in different parts of the province, but mostly at Phola, Ogies.

On Saturday, April 5 another development tournament was held in Phola.

Boxing legend and promoter Paul ‘Sika’ Tshehla believes that they are on the right course in developing boxing in the regions and wants to unearth talent at grassroots. They are taking boxing to the people like it used to be in the past.

To this end he works with former boxing champion Lawrence Ngobeni and former boxer Sipho Rakwena, who also trains some of the boys in Phola.

The club will be holding a tournament in the future to introduce some of the boxers to the public.
In the first bout Khulekani Ndlovu of Thuthukani Primary School beat Sibusiso Ngozo of Sibukosethu Primary School on points, Saki Magolego beat Tebogo Masina on points.

In the third bout Jimmy Tshehla beat Buti Meko on points in a very tightly contested bout. Mongezi Sindane of Thuthukani Primary School won on a walkover. Banele Nkosi of Phakama Combined School beat Khanya Mabuza of Vuma Primary School on points.

Anele Diba of Thuthukani Primary managed to beat Sibongiseni Masina of Hlangu-Phala Primary School in the first round after the fight was stopped. Mongezi Tsele was beaten by Mthokozisi Masina on points, Siyabonga Ndlazi beat Siyabonga Maseko on points in the battle of Siyabonga, Charles Businda and Njabulo Bila drew in the fight.

The bout of the tournament was very interesting, between Singiphiwe Gwabeni and Melvin Sibanyoni. It had all the drama, with Gwabeni winning in the end.
