Ferros fumbled 17-41

The weekend’s rugby did not play out as well as many expected. Shumba Ferros lost their match against Impala from Rustenburg, 17-41.

On March 15, the three Ferros teams clashed against their opposition on the fields of Puma Rugby Stadium.

Ferros 3 drew their match against Standerton 2 with a score of 5-5. Lorrent Ferros XV beat Standerton 1 with a score of 27 to 11.

In the main match at 15:30, Shumba Ferros took on Impala from Rustenburg. Ferros had the kick off and it looked as if they were dominating the field after scoring the first try of the match, keeping Impala at bay from their try line.

In the second half Ferros had possession and territorial advantage, but made costly errors on defence throughout the last 20 minutes and could not capitalise on the good ball positioning the forwards had provided.

Impala took advantage of Ferros’ mistakes and began their onslaught, ending the match with 41 points on the board. Ferros remained on 17 points.

This coming weekend Shumba Ferros look to redeem themselves as they take on Sishen in Kathu, setting their sights on making the Easter Weekend Club Champs play offs in George.

Try scorers for Shumba Ferros were Jean Botha and Willie van der Merwe, Dewald Pieters completed two conversions and a single penalty.
