Spurs beaten by Cosmos

Witbank Spurs bit the dust when Jomo Cosmos beat them in a National First Division game played at the Puma Stadium.

Spurs were beaten 2-0 by Cosmos during the game played on Sunday, March 9 under the threat of heavy rain, which later cleared just after the start of the match. Spurs, after playing so well in the Nedbank Cup, came home to lose.

Two goals via set pieces scored in each of the halves, were Spurs’ downfall. Both teams however owned up as they struggled to find their footing on the slippery field. Cosmos started to gain ground as Charlton Mashumba and Bamuza Sono took control of the middlefield. Sono and Menzi Masuku formed a deadly combination as they opened up Spurs and set passes for their teammates.

Cosmos scored their first gold from place kick when Lindo Nkambule Spurs keeper failed to handle. Spurs had their chances to equalise but their forwards were well maintained by Cosmos’ back four. Spurs’ Thapelo Mkhatshwa, missed when he failed to connect a Randy Ngobe pass. Spurs’ forward could not combine well and their defence could not communicate.

In the second half both teams had their fair chance to score but all was wasted. Spurs’ forward Ralph Matema, missed several chances to make it for his team. Even the terrible twins could not click well.

Spurs gained the upper hand but failed to capitalise. Spurs had many corners kicks but failed to make use of them.
Cosmos scored their second goal through a place kick when Nkambule failed to handle the shot.
