Boxing growing in support

ABC Boxing Camp has taken boxing to another level and the sport is being supported everywhere they held their tournament.

Recently a boxing tournament was held at the Paul and Zeph Shopping complex in Phola, Ogies. The tournament was held on Saturday, February 8. This was the first tournament for the year for ABC Camp, last year they held tournaments every month in places like Phola and in Mhluzi in Middelburg.

The first boxers to take the stage were Phillimon Mgiba of Thuthukani Primary School and he was up against Mthembeni Skosana of Lungisani Primary School from KwaNdebele. Skosana won on points. Jimmy Tshehla of Sibukosethu Primary School was up against Siyabonga Mashiyane of Sibonelo and Tshehla won on points. Lunga Mashiya of Hlangu-Phala Primary School faced Monwabisi Stick of Thembeka Primary School in Siyabuswa.

Monwabisi punched his way forward and threw punches at will, while Lunga backtracked. Monwabisi was stronger and ended up winning on points. Lebohang Khumalo of Thembeka Primary School beat Thabo Mahlangu of Thuthukani Primary School in the ant weight division.

In the spider weight division Siphiwe Nkonde of Lungisani Primary School beat Fana Sibiya of Siyathokoza Primary School. In the light pin weight division Given Mtshweni beat Sivusumuzi Moyo, while Lerati Lenepa was beaten by Sibongise Masina of Hlagu-Phala.

Tiny Vuyo Masemula was stopped in the first round by Linda Mahlangu. Hlompho Rakwena drew in his fight with Ndowozani Mahlangu.  Sipha Masina beat Nkosinathi Ndlela on points in their midge weight division. Banele Dibi stopped Siyabonga Mpila in the first round. Mduduzi Mtimunye drew in his fight with Mongezi Sindane, Sindane was saved by the bell in the last round. Sifiso Mthiyane was too strong for Johannes Jiyane.

In the seniors Vuyisile Mvubelo was beaten by Given Mthembu, while Lota Mokobe stopped Ferdi Ludick in the second round. Osia Mesehla beat Sydwell Mabena when the fight was stopped in the last round.
“We invite our children, youth and the community at large to get involved, our goal for 2014 is to raise the bar in terms of quality in boxers. Come one, come all to the sweet science, which is boxing,” said Paul ‘Sika’ Tshehla, the boxing legend.
