Boxing development taken to another level

Sports and boxing officials recently met to map a way forward for boxing in the city.

Mr Lebona Mosia chief director at Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation in Mpumalanga accompanied by Mr Pat Mashiyane and Mr France Motau met with Paul Tshehla and Lawrence Ngubeni to show their support towards local boxing clubs.

The officials also handed over a cheque of R250 000 to revamp the dilapidated boxing gymnasium at Lynnville.

The officials said they wanted to see boxing developing in the area and show their supports to the already active ABC Boxing Camp. They want to see boxing being revived and tournament being held again, as it used to happen in the past.

It was recently announced after a meeting, that boxing will be back to the small screen in the next financial year. A meeting held recently between National Department of Sports, SABC, Boxing South Africa (BSA) and boxing promoter Branco Milenkovic.

It was announced after the landmark meeting that all the parties agreed to have boxing back on the screens.
This comes after a Boxing Indaba was held in October last year.
The last regular boxing broadcast was held in May 2010.
