Crossing the Swazi Frontier

The race pushed competitors to their absolute limit as there was only one water point each day at approximately the halfway mark

Inyatsi Swazi Frontier is a three-day mountain-bike event for teams of two.

It takes place in Mbabane, Swaziland, in October each year.

The race’s route is almost entirely unmarked except for some of the fast flowing descents and some tricky sections, because of this navigation had to be done with the help of a GPS.

The race pushed competitors to their absolute limit as there was only one water point each day at approximately the halfway mark.

Certain sections of the route had been included specifically to indulge those who relish the challenge of a technical climb or descent and was approached with caution by the saner amongst us.

Shaun Kiley and Stefus Jansen van Rensburg’s overall time after the three stages was 16 hours and 14 minutes.

“It was an awesome adventure, three days, four seasons and countless unforgettable memories,” said Shaun Kiley, “The end results were not what we had hoped for, however with tough conditions prevailing, especially on the first day, riding in the rain for over five hours in very muddy and slippery conditions. Day three had temperatures up to 40 degrees. Despite all of this, we finished 29th overall.”
