The Mpumalanga province will be represented by Chief Jerry Nkosi Secondary School at this year’s Copa Coca-Cola® National Finals® after the school from the Nkangala region were crowned this year’s Mpumalanga Copa Coca-Cola champions.

With four schools vying for the ticket to the Copa Coca-Cola® national finals, it was a round-robin format that was used to determine who would be crowned champions and subsequently represent the province in Durban between 18 and 21 September.

Chief Jerry Nkosi’s opening fixture was a tough encounter against Soshangane Secondary School which went 2-1 in favour of the new champions.

Their next assignment was against Zacheus Secondary School which they won by the very same score line.

Needing just a draw to finish top of the group, Chief Jerry Nkosi held off a resilient Tikhontelele Secondary School to finish the game at 0-0 which was just enough to see them through and be crowned Mpumalanga champions.

Congratulating the newly crowned champions, Copa Coca-Cola® ambassador, Lucky Lekgwathi wished the school the best of luck in Durban while also applauding the wonderful display of talent in Mpumalanga.

“This was a wonderful weekend of football in Mpumalanga from these talented players. Outside of the wonderful display of football, the community of Ka Mhlushwa came out in their numbers to support this wonderful initiative by Coca-Cola® and SASFA. While winning was at the top of their minds, the boys displayed good Copa Coca-Cola® characteristics of sportsmanship and fair play” said Lekgwathi.

Outside of the football action, teenagers had the opportunity to dance to the sounds of Hip Hop disc jockey, DJ Speedsta.

The popular DJ was in Ka Mhlushwa to perform this year’s Copa Coca-Cola® anthem titled “Champion”.

The 2019 Copa Coca-Cola® anthem will see the hip hop artist collecting sound bites from all Copa Coca-Cola® Provincial Finals to include in the final mix of the song which will soon be available for download.

The globally acclaimed school’s football tournament will now head to Limpopo to determine who will represent the province at the Copa Coca-Cola® National Finals.

Nkangala was represented by Zacheus Malaza Secondary School.
