A soccer tournament was recently played at the Witbank Correctional Centre.
The Aurum Instituted Cup tournament was played by eight inmate teams. In the finals, Mpumalanga Black Aces faced Witbank Spurs.
In the first half both teams were attacked but Aces goal keeper saved a shot from one of Spurs forwards. Spurs were at it again when they had a breakthrough but failed to capitalise. Spurs could not break through Aces strong defence. An Aces shot was saved for a corner and an Aces through pass was well defended.
Spurs keeper while out of his post but, the shot hit the upright. Aces were now the better team and they pushed forward for a goal. Aces had a header saved well. Spurs place-kick was also saved, Aces had a long strike at goal but it went wide.

Both sides were on the attack but they failed to find the net.

In the second half both teams showed some neat football and on the attack. Spurs were rewarded when they scored the equaliser. Aces were the better team and they pressed hard moving forward. Aces were also very fast on the attack.

Play swung from one end to the other without any team scoring, as both teams failed to break the deadlock, then went for the penalties.
In the end Spurs won 5-3.
The tournament was well supported by officials from Mpumlanga Black Aces and Witbank Spurs.
