MTN8 Launch a success

MTN South Africa, in partnership with the Premier Soccer League (PSL), officially launched the 2014/15 edition of its MTN8 Wafa Wafa campaign on Monday at Discovery Park in Johannesburg and it was a huge success.

The tournament is aimed at bringing excitement to the start of the domestic season and also reward football fans with priceless experiences.

MTN8, the most lucrative cup competition on the African continent, which is now in its seventh year, will kick off on Friday, 1 August 2014 at the Bidvest Stadium.

Through the MTN8 tournament, football fans will once again have an opportunity to win a once-in-a-lifetime experience thanks to the popular MTN8 last Fan Standing competition which concludes with the ultimate prize of the crowning of the ultimate football fan.

During the 2014 edition of the MTN8, the victorious fan will get a chance to travel to Berlin to watch the ‘Best of Europe’ in 2015 and also receive a whopping R1 million in cash.

To stand a chance to win, fans will have to recharge with R10 or more, then register by dialing *130*2#. By so doing, fans will be automatically entered into a weekly draw, for seven weeks, to be selected as one of the weekly finalists. Once all eight finalists have been determined, they will participate in a football trivia quiz to determine who this year’s winner will be on the eve of the MTN8 final on Friday 19 September.

Larry Annetts, the Chief Marketing Officer at MTN SA says: “MTN is excited to bring these once-in-a-lifetime experiences to football fans and our customers once again.

“The MTN8 has grown in leaps and bounds and continues to be a fan favourite. This tournament has become synonymous with the Last Fan Standing, where one fan scoops the ultimate football prize of a whopping R1m in cash plus a football experience that money can’t buy.

“The MTN8 is also a favourite with the clubs as it is the shortest cup competition that yields the richest rewards. The competition truly encapsulates the theme “wafa wafa” winner takes all.”

PSL CEO, Brand de Villiers added: “The MTN8 has a special place in the heart of millions of football fans in this country – it is the competition that creates the conversation and sets the tone for the season. This makes this tournament not only important but also strategic for the participating clubs, the League and our sponsors MTN.

“We are looking forward to some quality football and we urge fans to come in numbers to support their clubs.”

This year, MTN will continue to go the extra mile to connect fans to their passions by bringing not only R8 million in amazing prizes, but also continuing to stage incredible MTN8 Wafa Wafa experiences until the final on the 20th September. The weekly R8 million in prizes include:
Last Fan Standing (weekly finalists drawn)
