All systems go at Vasco da Gama

It is all systems go at South African National First Division (NFD) side Vasco da Gama as the new owners, the TMM Group, have officially taken charge of the club.

Mario Ferreira’s company, TMM Holdings (PTY) Ltd, is officially the majority shareholder while Ashley Kotzin’s company Forwardzone are the managing consultants overseeing the structures of Vasco Da Gama, from the amateur set up to the professional team.

The exciting development is aimed at nurturing young football talent in the country and helping take the famous Cape Town community club to the next level.

“It’s all systems go. TMM will be the majority shareholder. The Das Neves brothers (Carlos, Mario and Paulo) are staying on as minor shareholders,” Ferreira said.

Besides brothers Carlos, Paulo and Mario Das Neves who all played for Vasco at one stage in their careers, the rest of the previous Vasco shareholders are no longer involved with the club in any official capacity

The current technical team of Tony de Nobrega, Keenin Lesch (a former captain of the team) and Kenny Gertse will stay on to lead the team while a specific focus is put on the club’s vast junior structures.

The club’s youth development will get an overhaul in terms of its vision, structures and technical input to take what is an already well-established youth set up and build it to the next level.

Vasco Da Gama will play a friendly game against Ajax Cape Town at 1pm on Tuesday at Ikamva.
