Amajimbos ready for AYC warm-up matches

South Africa Under-17 team head coach, Molefi Ntseki, believes the friendly matches against Botswana and Lesotho are crucial for his team’s preparations ahead of the African Youth Championships qualifiers.

The Amajimbos will take on Tanzania for the first leg of the second round AYC qualifier on 18 July in Dar es Salaam, but they will first travel to Botswana and Lesotho for international friendly matches.

“The reason we are going to Botswana and Lesotho is that our boys have never played away from home and 99 percent of the players in camp have never represented the country outside the borders of South Africa,” Ntseki said in a press release.

“We took some of them to Namibia earlier this year and we saw that they were scared, not due to lack of talent but because they were introduced to a new level of competition.

“So we felt we should play them away from home in conditions that might be similar to the ones we may find in Tanzania so that they are ready when we get there. Also we will be using the synthetic turf in Botswana and Lesotho which is used in Tanzania so it was important that we do this exercise.”
