‘Three captains a bit confusing’ – Peter Kirsten

Former South African Test batsman Peter Kirsten has explained that three different captains across the three formats is "a bit confusing for all concerned".

Hashim Amla was recently named South Africa’s Test captain, AB de Villiers leads the ODI team while Faf du Plessis is in charge of the Twenty20 outfit.

The trio form an integral part of the team across all formats, so why appoint three different captains asks Kirsten.

“Three is a bit confusing for all concerned. When it gets tight and hot out there you don’t want three conflicting opinions on what to do. You want your leader to be in charge,” Kirsten told Business Day Live.

“The players will have to get used to three different styles of captaincy,” he added.

Kirsten added that he would have preferred two captains — Du Plessis in the Tests and Twenty20s and De Villiers in the one-day internationals.
