Veteran Monyai stays at AmaTuks

Veteran defender Tebogo Monyai has been given a contract extension by University of Pretoria, which will see him stay at the club for another year.

Club coach Steve Barker confirmed that the club concluded a new deal with the 34-year-old skipper of the club last week and that he would then retire from the game this time next year.

The move is seen as a reward for Monyai who has been a loyal and model professional, having also played for Moroka Swallows and Mpumalanga Black Aces

With Monyai being given another year, the future of Tuks’ star defender Buhle Mkhwanazi comes into focus.

Barker has said that he wants to keep his international defender but that there had there had been some offers for Mkhwanazi. Among the clubs after him are champions Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits.

Has Monyai been kept as back up given that the club are resigned to losing their Bafana Bafana defender Mkhwanazi?

AmaTuks have also decided not to renew the contacts of Warren Bishop, Charly Moussono, Ayo Oluwafemi and Dispy Selolwane.

These moves have effectively freed up places for foreigners to come in for the new season.
